Making your first visit

The Studio

We teach out of a beautiful light-filled studio based at Dance, Be In It, a dance hub servicing the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the City of Glen Eira.

Conveniently located opposite Murrumbeena train station, we are just a 17 minute train ride from Flinders Street station. Our facilities include male and female toilets and a change room.

Come in and feel the welcome smiles of our fun and dynamic team who will support and encourage you with your personal practice and your dance journey.

Here are a few commonly asked questions by first-time visitors, and our responses.

  • DO I NEED A PARTNER?
No, you don’t need to bring a partner as we will rotate partners during the L.A. Salsa and Rueda de Casino classes, and Samba is a solo dance. So just bring your lovely selves!
  • I HAVE TWO LEFT FEET AND NO SENSE OF RHTYHM – CAN I DANCE?
DEFINITELY! Remember, these are STREET latin dance rhythms, which means they are danced by anyone and everyone in their country of origin. In Australia, where dancing is not traditionally part of our culture, we already have mental barriers (known or unknown) to dancing. Here at Momenta, we believe that EVERYONE IS BORN TO DANCE. Think about babies and toddlers – our purest selves before the world tells us what we can or cannot, should or should not do. What do babies and toddlers do when they hear music or rhythms they love? They MOVE, in that cute, awkward, unencumbered way that uninhibited, still learning to coordinate little people can. It’s in all of us, the ability and the PURPOSE to dance. Are you willing, do you dare to come and find that part of you again? We would love to be part of that journey!
  • DO I HAVE TO BOOK?
Yes, we request that people make bookings as we limit our class numbers so we can provide a more personalised learning environment. Booking online is easy, and you can do this through our website.
  • HOW MUCH DO THE CLASSES COST?
Our level 1 8 class courses are valued at $160. With our current launch special, prices range from $95 – $145, depending on your preferred method of payment. Check out our pricing structure here
  • CAN I DO CLASSES CASUALLY?
Our classes run as 6 or 8 class progressive courses, to allow you to learn and retain information more effectively. To be fair to the other students who have committed to the 6 class course, we decided not to allow casual drop-ins into our courses.
Experience has shown us that when newcomers are allowed to participate halfway through a course without the appropriate background knowledge, the whole class needs to start right at the beginning of that level again to bring the newcomer up to speed. While this is great for the newcomer, this can leave the other students who have already been coming for the past few classes, bored and disengaged. For the newcomer, it can also leave them disheartened with their first dance experience.
In a nutshell, allowing casual drop-ins into our class courses is a lose-lose situation.
The best time to try a class, would be the first class of a course. To find out when the next course starts, check out our calendar.
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
For L.A. Salsa and Rueda de Casino classes, wear comfortable clothing and close-fitting shoes that provide good support. Work wear is fine for those of you coming straight from work, as long as you are comfortable moving in it. Thongs and slip on shoes should not be worn.
For Samba, wear stretchy dance gear or comfortable gym clothes. Basically you need something that will not limit your range of motion. For shoes, it is best to wear sneakers that have a thin sole and do not have much grip, or dance shoes without heels. You can also dance with bare feet even though you will lack a bit of support. Remember to bring some water too!
  • HOW DO I GET THERE?
Our studio is at 474 Neerim Rd, Murrumbeena, opposite Murrumbeena train station. Here are the directions.
We are also a 17 minute train ride from Flinders Street station, on the Cranbourne and Pakenham train lines. You can plan your train journey using the Public Transport Victoria journey planner here.
